Dolly De Leon not among Oscar best supporting actress nominees

Despite the widespread critical acclaim she received for her breakout performance in "Triangle of Sadness," Filipina actress Dolly De Leon was not among the artists nominated for this year's Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

De Leon had been hotly tipped to make the list, after earning nominations from the Golden Globes and the BAFTA Film Awards and winning the Los Angeles Critics Award for best supporting actress.

"I'm still writing Dolly De Leon on my ballot," tweeted British director Edgar Wright.

The following are still in the running for the best supporting actress Oscar, which will be handed out on March 12 in Hollywood:

  • Angela Bassett, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever"
  • Hong Chau, "The Whale"
  • Kerry Condon, "The Banshees of Inisherin"
  • Jamie Lee Curtis, "Everything Everywhere All at Once"
  • Stephanie Hsu, "Everything Everywhere All at Once"

"Triangle of Sadness" director Ruben Östlund, however, is among the nominees for best director.

The satirical black comedy—about privileged wealthy people on a cruise ship and the crew member (De Leon) who upends the power dynamic after they are shipwrecked on a remote island—won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. — BM, GMA Integrated News
