Eddie Murphy ribs Will Smith for Oscars slap in his Golden Globes speech
Eddie Murphy was honored at this year's Golden Globes with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award, which is given for "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment."
The actor was celebrated for "decades of unbeatable comedy and incredible performances." He kicked off his career by working in comedy, going on to find success as a part of the cast of the TV show, "Saturday Night Live." He starred in hit movies like "Coming to America," "Shrek," and the "Beverly Hills Cop" trilogy with a sequel for the cop comedy slated for this year.
In his speech, Murphy shared "a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity, and peace of mind," a blueprint that he said he's followed his whole career.
In this plan, he said there are three things you need to do.
One, pay your taxes.
Two, mind your business.
And three, "keep Will Smith's wife's name out of your f*cking mouth."
Will Smith ("Men in Black") stirred controversy at the Academy Awards in March 2022 when he slapped actor Chris Rock ("Grown Ups") across the face after Rock made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith ("The Matrix Revolution"). Rock made fun of her hair, though Pinkett-Smith has a hair condition called alopecia that causes one's hair to fall out.
Afterwards, Smith was placed on a 10-year ban from the Academy, and since then, multiple outlets report that his career and popularity has taken a downturn.
