Superman costume used by Christopher Reeve to be auctioned next month

The Superman costume used by actor Christopher Reeve in the superhero's 1978 to 1987 franchise will be auctioned next month at the Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction.

According to Kuya Kim on "24 Oras," Thursday, the costume is expected to sell for up to £500,000 or P33.4 million.

Though the iconic costume would be a perfect addition to Superman fan Herbert Chavez, he said he wants others to have a chance at collecting such an item.

"Gustong-gusto kong mag-bid para sa costume na ito pero sa sarili ko pong opinyon, bigyan po natin ng pagkakataon 'yung iba," he said.

("I really wanted to bid but in my own opinion, I want to give the opportunity to others.")

Herbert now has about 10,000 pieces in his collection, of which a part is displayed at Manila Ocean Park. He is a former Guinness World Record holder of the biggest Superman memorabilia in the world.

Dubbed as the "Pinoy Superman" from Laguna, he is also known for undergoing cosmetic surgery to get the "Man of Steel" look. He said he has undergone around 30 procedures.

"Nag-start ako kasing magkaro'n ng idea sa pagpapagawa ng mukha is 1998. Ang uso pa lang noon is turok-turok pa lang sa ilong," he said.

"Nagpagawa na ako ng baba then after, inayos na 'yung implant mismo kasi nauso na mga implant."

("I started to have the idea of getting plastic surgery in 1998. Back then, nose injections were in vogue. I had work done on my chin then I had implants.")

Meanwhile, Kuya Kim said Superman was first called the "Man of Steel" in Action Comics #6. One of his skills is flying, which he can do because the gravitational pull from his planet Krypton is heavier than on Earth.

The Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction 2022 is on November 3 to 7.
