Zendaya makes history as the youngest two-time Emmy winner for acting
Zendaya had a historic win at the 2022 Emmy Awards, becoming the youngest two-time winner of the Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work on “Euphoria.”
The 26-year-old plays Rue in the teen drama, a teenage drug addict fresh out of rehab and struggling to find her place in the world.
“This means so much, thank you. Thank you so much,” an overwhelmed Zendaya said in her acceptance speech.
“Thank you to the incredible, incredible cast and crew of ‘Euphoria.’ Thank you for making such a safe space to make this very difficult show. I love you all so much.”
The actress then thanked the TV Academy, her family, and friends.
“Thank you to [series creator Sam Levinson] for sharing Rue with me. Thank you for believing in me, even in moments where I didn't believe in myself,” she added.
Zendaya then thanked those who shared their stories with her.
“My greatest wish for ‘Euphoria’ was that it could help heal people. And I just want to say thank you to everyone who has shared their story with me. I want you to know that anyone who has loved a Rue or feels like they are Rue, I want you to know that I'm so grateful for your stories. And I carry them with me, and I carry them with her. So thank you so much.”
She previously made history in 2020 as the youngest winner in the same category.
Zendaya also serves as an executive producer beginning in season 2, and with the show’s nomination for Outstanding Drama Series, she is the youngest woman ever nominated for producing. She is also nominated for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for her work on the series soundtrack. — LA, GMA News
