Viola Davis is Dr. Volumnia Gaul in ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’
Viola Davis is now officially part of the upcoming “The Hunger Games” prequel.
The announcement was made on the franchise’s official Facebook page Tuesday, sharing a glimpse of Davis’ participation in the film.
“Meet your Head Gamemaker. Viola Davis has been cast as Dr. Volumnia Gaul in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - arriving in theaters November 2023,” it read.
As of writing, the update has attracted over 19,000 reactions, 1,200 comments, and 3,200 shares from excited “The Hunger Games” fans all over the globe.
In a Deadline report, franchise producer Nina Jacobson said Davis has been their “dream for Dr. Gaul because of the finely layered intelligence and emotion she brings to every role.”
She added that they are “incredibly fortunate to have an actor with Viola’s extraordinary range and presence to play this pivotal role,” which will shape Coriolanus Snow’s character.
Based on the novels by Suzanne Collins, "The Hunger Games" is set in a dystopian post-apocalyptic future where tributes are chosen to compete in a televised fight to the death.
Collins released “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” prequel in 2020. Also starring Peter Dinklage, it follows the story of Coriolanus Snow, who would become the tyrannical Panem President.
Just in time for its 11th anniversary, the "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" will be out in the cinemas in November 2023. — LA, GMA News
