SHINee’s Onew talks about shifting from ballads to upbeat songs in ‘DICE’
From showcasing calm ballads in his previous album “Voice,” SHINee’s Onew has shifted to an upbeat road in his second mini album “DICE.”
In an online press conference for his latest release, the K-Pop star said he did this to widen his craft as an artist.
“I wanted to expand my musical spectrum. When people think of Onew, I want people to see me as not only an artist who sings in ballads or OSTs, but also someone who’s capable of showing new styles and performances,” he said.
“If I had to choose a word for this album, I’d say it’s diverse. I think I wanted to create diversity in the things I do in the future,” he added.
According to Onew, his solo music will be focused on sharing “my messages to many people.”
“Nowadays, we overlook the small things. I do that too. But from these seemingly minor parts of our daily lives, we can still find happiness and there is much beauty and joy to be found in this world we live in.”
“DICE,” released Monday, features six songs including the title track, “Sunshine,” “On The Way,” “Love Phobia,” “Yeowoobi,” and “In The Whale.”
It follows "Voice," Onew’s debut solo albumreleased in December 2018.
SHINee, meanwhile, recently released albums “Superstar,” “Don’t Call Me,” and “Atlantis.”
The group will be celebrating their 14th anniversary next month. — LA, GMA News
