BTS's RM opens up about Grammys loss and online hate
BTS leader and rapper RM has opened up about his group's Grammys loss, a week after the awards show concluded.
The South Korean superstar first addressed it during their "Permission to Dance On Stage" concert in Las Vegas on Saturday (Manila time).
"I know there’s a lot of noise out there about Grammys, why give a sh-t about it? Hating is their freedom, and they have their right to hate but I’d rather just talk with my friends in some cafe and forget about it. Rather than tweeting about it... I wouldn’t do that, cause I’m a grown up," he said.
"Anyway, we didn’t come to Vegas for the Grammys, we came to focus on the ARMYs! The records, the titles, accomplishments, the trophies, they’re really important but that wasn’t the first thing, the first reason why we started all these things," he added.
Shortly after the show, RM went live on the V Live app and shared more about how he and his fellow members felt on the night of the Grammys.
The phenomenal septet lost the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award to Doja Cat and Sza's "Kiss Me More."
However, RM said that they also considered their "Butter" performance just as important. The members had previously said that it was their dream to have a live solo performance at the Grammy's stage.
"The Grammys was fine. We enjoyed the performance. We were anxious about mistakes but there were no mistakes. Everyone gave us an applause and stood up so we appreciate it. The performance was everything," RM said.
"We were kinda disappointed when we heard that Doja was going to win but that's alright... all we can do is do our best from now on and get better and make good music. That's all, that's all we can do," he added.
BTS's performance on the Grammys stage also spewed some hate and attacks from American personalities, which triggered online debates as their fans, the ARMY, came to their defense.
Apparently, this didn't slip past RM's notice.
"There have always been people who hate us, to be honest. Some of that might be our fault, maybe, but often times not," he said. "I don't want to respond to such negative energies, especially since ARMYs have such a hard time. It's really a waste of energy."
RM also added that he's been thinking lately that he and the members should "focus on the initial reason why they started doing music" more.
"We do music because we want to share our energy with more people. So I don't channel my energy into negativity, not as much as I might've done before," he said.
BTS is holding a concert at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on April 8, 9, 15, and 16, a week after they performed at the Grammy Awards.
