Olivia Rodrigo named 2022 Billboard Woman of the Year
Olivia Rodrigo is Billboard's Woman of the Year for 2022!
The Filipino-American singer-songwriter was given the title following her explosive 2021, during which he debuted with her record-breaking single "Driver's License" and released her first album "Sour."
“Olivia’s trajectory to superstardom is the stuff of pop music legend,” said Billboard’s Editorial Director Hannah Karp in a statement. “Her talents as a storyteller and songwriter have made Olivia one of the most authentic and exciting new artists to explode onto the scene in years."
"Connecting with audiences across generations through emotionally charged songs about heartbreak, jealousy and growing up, she’s achieved absolutely incredible chart success for a debut artist. We are thrilled to celebrate her unique voice and the enormous impact she’s had on fans around the globe in such a short time," she added.
"Sour" was named the no. 1 album of 2021 by Rolling Stone, and landed in several of Billboard's year-end lists.
All 11 tracks of the debut album also charted in the Top 30 of Billboard Hot 100.
The 18-year-old Olivia also earned seven Grammy nominations, including record of the year, album of the year, and song of the year. —JCB, GMA News
