Dwayne Johnson surprises teen with his People’s Champ Award: ‘She’s a survivor’

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did a very champ-like gesture while receiving the "People’s Champion Award" at the 2021 People's Choice Awards on Tuesday.

After thanking everyone for the award onstage, the pro-wrestler turned-movie star called on a teenage girl in the audience by surprise.

"I met her earlier. I told her how inspired I was by her story. She is a survivor. She has fought literally for her life," Dwayne explained.

"She has inspired her family, her friends, now you guys here, now the world that is watching."

Dwayne handed the young woman his trophy, and told her that "[she represents] everything that it means to be a people's champion."

Earlier in his speech, Dwayne reminded everyone that the “original people’s champion” was Muhammad Ali whom he met as a little boy.

The actor recalled how the boxing legend “was always so wonderful to [him]” and emphasized that “the true meaning of being the people’s champion… is you treat people good.”

Dwayne shared that his last conversation with Ali actually took place at a Make-A-Wish event, and that he has had the pleasure of working with the foundation over the years.

Before leaving the stage, the Hollywood star shared some life-changing words of wisdom he heard when he was 15: "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice."

Dwayne has been lifting people's spirits of late. In November, he gave away his personal pick-up truck to a Navy veteran. — LA, GMA News
