'Squid Game' creator reacts to LeBron James’ comments about the show's ending

“Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk had an interesting response to LeBron James' comment about the show's ending.

According to People Magazine, the Los Angeles Lakers star was overheard discussing the series with teammate Anthony Davis at a press conference earlier this month, saying “I didn’t like the ending though...What are you doing?”

In a Guardian report released on Tuesday, Hwang simply "giggled" at hearing James’ comment.

“Have you seen Space Jam 2?” Hwang said. “LeBron James is cool and can say what he wants. I respect that. I’m very thankful he watched the whole series.”

“But I wouldn’t change my ending. That’s my ending. If he has his own ending that would satisfy him, maybe he could make his own sequel. I’ll check it out and maybe send him a message saying, ‘I liked your whole show, except the ending,’” he added.

“Squid Game” took the world by storm and became Netflix’s number 1 show when it was released in September. It was streamed by 142 million households and was reportedly worth almost $900 million to Netflix, but despite its massive global success, Hwang isn’t about a second season.

“Of course there is talk. That’s inevitable because it’s been such a success. I am considering it. I have a very high-level picture in my mind, but I’m not going to work on it straight away. There’s a film I really want to make. I’m thinking about which to do first. I’m going to talk to Netflix,” he said.

Laughing, he added, “It’s possible that I have to do season two to become as rich as Squid Game’s winner.”

A decade in the making, Korean series "Squid Game" premiered on Netflix last September. It follows 456 participants who decide to play deadly children’s games in the hopes of winning a cash prize worth 45.6 billion won or nearly P2 billion.

After its release, it climbed up Netflix's top 10 shows in the Philippines and gained popularity worldwide, propelling actors to fame.
