Gunther of 'Friends' passes away

James Michael Tyler, fondly known as Gunther on “Friends,” has died.

According to a Variety report on Sunday, the 59-year-old actor passed away in Los Angeles after a battle with prostate cancer.

“Friends” shared the sad news with their fans on social media.

“Warner Bros. Television mourns the loss of James Michael Tyler, a beloved actor and integral part of our FRIENDS family. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues and fans,” the statement said.

Tyler is famous for playing Gunther, an employee at the Central Perk cafe, where the six “friends” spent a great deal of their free time.

He also appeared in TV shows like “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Just Shoot Me,” and “Scrubs.” — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
