How Fil-Norwegian singer Clinton Kane went from being homeless to a rising star
Before topping music charts worldwide, Filipino-Norwegian singer Clinton Kane first went through a series of bumps in his life, which includes sleeping on streets.
In an online interview with GMA News Online Thursday, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter said he flew to Greece in 2018, with just $500 in his pocket. He had just dropped out of med school.
After a few months of his stay, he had problems financially that led him to live out on the streets for a couple of weeks.
“I was homeless for about two weeks," Clinton said. "It was more of my fault, really. I’m not very good with my money. I’m not good at spending. I spend it on food, which is the funniest thing,” he said.
“I spend so much on food every single day,” he continued, laughing.
According to Clinton, it was music that gave him a hand to having a better life - the one he has now.
“What really saved me from being homeless was busking, singing on the street," he continued, adding he had his guitar with him then.
“That helped me a lot for sure. It helped me get money and stop sleeping on a park bench,” he added.
Eventually, his songs caught the eye of several music labels, including Columbia Records (Sony Music) with whom he signed a contract with in 2019.
Currently staying in Las Vegas, Clinton further rose to fame with “I Guess I’m In Love,” which has over 42 million streams on Spotify as of writing. It’s also the seventh song on Spotify Philippines’ Top 50.
“I don’t know how to feel. I’m very confused. I’m very overwhelmed and happy. I’m really happy that it is doing well over there,” he said.
Released just last August, the song now has more than 85,000 videos on TikTok with people using it to show their loved ones. On YouTube, meanwhile, its music video has nearly four million views.
Clinton’s discography also include “Chicken Tendies,” “Fix It To Break It,” and “Hopeless.” — LA, GMA News
