’The Queen's Gambit’ is not getting a Season 2, creator confirms
It’s official: “The Queen’s Gambit” will not be getting a Season 2.
The creators confirmed this after the wildly-popular limited series about a female chess prodigy bagged multiple awards at the 2021 Emmy Awards on Monday.
“I’m so sorry. I hate disappointing anyone but no,” co-creator Scott Frank said after being asked about a possible continuation to Beth Harmon’s story in the series.
He added, “I feel like we told the story we wanted to tell and… I’m terrified that if we tried to tell more we would ruin what we already told.”
“The Queen’s Gambit” premiered on Netflix last October and quickly became a sensation.
It tells the story of an orphaned female chess prodigy named Bath Harmon becomes the best in the world while battling loss, alcoholism and drug addiction.
The seven-episode series, which was based on the 1983 American novel by Walter Tevis and stars Anya Taylor Joy (“Split,” “Last Night in Soho”), won the Golden Globe for Best Limited Series in March. — LA, GMA News
