Here’s how Theo James got the lead role on ‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf’

Many know Theo James as the brooding and dreamy Four from the "Divergent" series, but did you know that he is also the actor behind the voice of leading character, Vesemir, on "The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf" anime film?

According to "The Witcher" showrunner and executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, James was her first choice for the voice of Vesemir, a young, charming Witcher who escaped poverty by slaying monsters and would one day be Geralt's mentor.

"Theo James was our absolute first choice," Hissrich said during a media conference.

"I was a huge fan of Theo from some of his live action works so it was something that Beau DeMayo, who wrote it … so he and I sort of brainstormed casting separately and we brought Theo James to the table in the first meeting of the minds. It was very seamless for me."

The producer added: "Sitting in the studio with Theo for the first time, he absolutely embodied this character."

"The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf" is a prequel anime story that revolves around the evolution of Vesemir and what he went through before he became Geralt's mentor.

In the upcoming prequel film, Vesemir finds himself in an adventure where he confronts his own demons as he faces a new monster terrorizing a kingdom.

Written and produced by DeMayo and co-produced by Hissrich, the upcoming film will be directed by Studio Mir’s Kwang Il Han.

Aside from James, other actors who lent their voices to the anime film are "Sherlock" star Lara Pulver, "Blood Red Sky" actor Graham McTavish, and "Battlescar Galactica" actress Mary McDonnell.
