Michelle Yeoh to star in 'The Witcher' prequel series
Michelle Yeoh is set to play the role of a sword wielder in the prequel series "The Witcher: Blood Origin."
On Tuesday, Netflix announced that the "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Memoirs of a Geisha" star will act as Scian, the very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves for the fantasy series.
Scian carries much loss, and is known for her artistry with the blade. When she gets the chance to retrieve a stolen sacred sword taken from her fallen tribe, she goes on a deadly mission that will change the outcome of the Continent.
"The Witcher: Blood Origin," a six-part live action prequel series to the hit Netflix show "The Witcher," is set in an elven world 1200 years before the timeline of the "The Witcher."
In the prequel series, characters will "tell a story lost to time" and how the first prototype Witcher was created as well as how events led to the "conjunction of the spheres" when the worlds of monsters, elves, and humans become one.
Aside from Michelle, Laurence O'Fuarain is also part of the cast and will play the role of Fjall, a warrior sworn to protect a king.
With Andrzej Sapkowski serving as creative consultant on the series, "The Witcher: Blood Origin" will also have Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as executive producer.
A release date is yet to be announced. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
