‘Watch Me’ rapper Silento arrested for cousin’s murder
The rapper behind “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” Ricky Hawk, commonly known as Silento, has been arrested for the murder of his cousin.
“Today, Ricky Hawk, 23, was arrested for the murder of his cousin Frederick Rooks, 34,” the DeKalb County Police Department said in a tweet.
“On January 21, the DeKalb County Police Department investigated Rooks’ death after he was found shot on Deep Shoals Circle. Hawk is in the DeKalb County Jail charged with Murder,” it continued.
According to a Billboard report, the police responded to a 3:30 a.m. shots-fired call and found Rooks dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.

Silento was also arrested in August for assault with a deadly weapon after being accused of walking into a stranger’s home in Los Angeles and swinging a hatchet at the two people inside before one of them disarmed him.
He was also held on domestic violence charges at a California home a day prior to the arrest and in October, was arrested again for allegedly driving 143 mph in DeKalb County.
“Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” became a hit in 2015 after starting a viral dance craze, making it one of Billboard’s 100 songs that defined the decade in 2019. The song soared to third place in the Hot 100 list. – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
