‘Tom and Jerry’ director Gene Deitch dies at 95
Gene Deitch, the director of the beloved children's cartoon “Tom and Jerry," has passed away. He was 95.
According to the New York Times, the Oscar-winning illustrator, animator, film director and producer died in Prague last April 16. His death was confirmed by his son Kim Deitch, the Times said.
Born August 8, 1924 in Chicago, Eugene Merrill Deitch is known for his work in “Tom and Jerry.”
The iconic television cartoon about a cat and a mouse remains a large part of the childhoods of this generation.
Deitch’s movie “Munro” also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1960.
He is survived by his wife and three sons who are all illustrators, as well. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
