Park Seo Joon details how his role in hit K-drama 'Itaewon Class' changed him
Park Seo Joon detailed how his role as "Park Sae Roy" in the hit Korean drama "Itaewon Class" changed him in the Korean edition of Esquire magazine.
"Itaewon Class" is a webtoon adapted into a K-drama by JTBC. Philippine audiences have been able to enjoy it on Netflix, where it's consistently in the Top 10 shows in the country.
In a report on Soompi, Seo Joon told Esquire Korea that the show's unique genre drew him to his role in Itaewon.
"I wanted to take on a different kind of genre. Although [‘Itaewon Class’] was a drama that had elements of multiple genres, I thought what was most important was Park Sae Roy’s growth as a person," he said.
Seo Joon said his role had him reflecting on societal issues, which he said wasn't really like him before the drama.
"I found myself thinking about what kind of influence Park Sae Roy’s words would have on society," he said.
Seo Joon simultaneously grew as a person, as his character in "Itaewoon Class" did.
"I wasn’t originally someone who had much interest in societal issues, but Sae Roy was different,” he said. “While filming this drama, I found myself thinking more about societal issues. [As Park Sae Roy grew and evolved in the drama], I also ended up growing and evolving," he added.
The Soompi report noted that Seo Joon told Esquire Korea that his role in "Itaewon Class" became an important turning point in his career allowing him to look back where he started.
“Rather than leading me in a different direction,” he said, “I think it led me back towards my starting point. It became an opportunity for me to look back on my somewhat brief acting career," Seo Joon told Esquire Korea.
