Lee Min Ho on his 'The King: Eternal Monarch' character: Thoughtful

Looking for an answer to your CLOY withdrawal? Maybe a reason to stay holed up at home for the rest of the ECQ? Netflix just started streaming Lee Min Ho's return to TV!

"The King: Eternal Monarch," which stars Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun, is romance fantasy about star-crossed lovers from parallel worlds.

It’s the first time the two actors are working on a project together, although they do share something in common: They both have worked with "The King" writer Kim Eun Suk before—Lee Min Ho on "The Heirs" and Kim Go Eun on "Goblin." In case those name drops aren't enough: Kim Eun Suk also wrote "Descendants of the Sun."

Lee Min Ho plays Emperor Lee Gon while Kim Go Eun plays violent crimes detective Jung Tae Eul. The two run into each other when Lee Gon crosses an interdimensional portal from his world to ours.

On paper, Lee Min Ho’s character is described as cold and aloof. But during a video conference call with select members of press, the Hallyu superstar turned introspective.

“Rather than cold and aloof, I think it’s more that Lee Gon [can’t] express himself freely, [except] to people who are very close to him," Min Ho began. "He’s not the type of person to really express himself without a definite answer. So rather than describe him as cold and aloof, I would say that he is more deliberate, thoughtful, and mindful,” says the actor.

Lee Min Ho goes on to say that Lee Gon has been shaped by his experiences and the people around him, “Because the character goes through such an immense experience in his childhood, if he weren’t able to overcome that in a healthy and constructive way, I believe that he could have been someone very difficult to be around with growing up.

“However, luckily for Lee Gon, he [was surrounded] by a lot of good people. I believe the character was somebody who overcame [his childhood] and grew into a very [well-rounded] person,” Lee Min Ho adds. — LA, GMA News

The King: Eternal Monarch starts streaming on Netflix April 17 at 10:30pm. Subsequent episodes will be streamed weekly, every Friday and Saturday.
