Billie Eilish's 'bad guy' is the top global song of 2019

After sweeping the top four prizes in the Grammy Awards this year — making history! — teen sensation Billie Eilish has bagged another accolade: her single "bad guy" has been recognized as the biggest global single of 2019

The announcement was revealed by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide, which said she bested other artists like Lil Nas X, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, and Ariana Grande.

Billie Eilish's "bad guy" is the fifth single from the her first album, "WHEN WE FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO," released in March 2019.

It instantly became a hit, topping charts in more than 15 countries including the US and becoming Spotify's second most-streamed song of 2019. "According to Shazam, it was the most-searched-for track of 2019," added IFPI.

"Billie Eilish has taken the world by storm with her incredible voice and genre-defying sound," said IPFI Chief Executive Frances Moore who presented the award to Billie.

"She is also an artist who addresses important issues like mental health in her lyrics that clearly resonate with her fans all over the world," Moore added.
