"Crash Landing on You" star Son Ye-jin has made a generous donation to her coronavirus-hit hometown, Daegu City.
According to a report on Korean news site Soompi, the actress donated 100 million won (about PHP 4.1 million) to the Daegu branch of the Community Chest of Korea.
Ye-jin told Soompi that Daegu was a special place for her because it was the city she was born and raised in, and it was where her parents are currently based.
"...The news of [the COVID-19 outbreak] in Daegu was especially heartbreaking for me," she was quoted as saying.
"I hope that [my donation] can provide some sort of practical help to lower-income residents who desperately need help now more than ever, as well as aid in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19," she added.
Her donation will be reportedly be used to provide medical supplies and support for Daegu locals.
On Friday, South Korea reported 256 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of infected in the country to 2,022. The death toll from the virus stood at 13, unchanged from the day earlier.
The majority of cases in the country are from the southeastern city of Daegu, the location of a church at the center of the country's outbreak, which has also opened a drive-thru facility.
Despite being the fourth-largest city in South Korea, it has become seemingly deserted as residents holed up indoors after dozens of people caught the coronavirus in what the authorities described as a "super-spreading event" at said church.
