"On the afternoon of February 15 (Saturday), Lee Kwang Soo, who was going somewhere in his car as part of his personal schedule, was hit by a car violating traffic signals," said talent agency King Kong by Starship, in a written statement.

After a detailed examination, the 34-year old cast entertainer was diagnosed with a fracture in his right ankle. At present, he is receiving treatment and hospitalization.

"As a result, he will not be able to take part in his scheduled activities, and we ask for your understanding. We will be monitoring his progress, and he will focus on receiving treatment for his recovery," the statement read.

The statement was shared by Soompi News, a South Korean entertainment news portal.

According to Sports Chosun, the first day of his surgery was on Tuesday.

The "Running Man," which first aired in 2010, is part of South Korean TV network SBS' Good Sunday segment. The show has gained considerable popularity among Hallyu fans.

Last week, SBS signed a contract with GMA Network to co-produce 'Running Man Philippines', which is scheduled to air on 2021.

Lee Kwang Soo and other "Running Man" cast members were set to visit the Philippines for a grand fan meet this June, but the event was postponed because of the looming coronavirus-2019 (COVID-2019) threats. — Angelica Y. Yang/LA, GMA News
