Veteran actor-director Tony Mabesa dies

Veteran actor and director Tony Mabesa passed away on Friday.

Director Floy Guintos posted on his Facebook account a statement from Mabesa's family: "We, the family of Antonio Mabesa, are saddened to announce his passing."

"Sir Tony joined his creator at 10:20 this evening (Friday). He was surrounded by family and friends."

Quintos added that the details of the wake will be announced on Saturday.

"We thank you for your prayers. We hope you can respect the family's wish for privacy at this time," Quintos added in his post.

Mabesa was conferred the Gawad Dangal ng Lahi at the 66th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 2016, recognizing his immense influence in the local performing arts scene.

He has received great acclaim as both actor and director, involving himself in everything from "Haring Lear" to "Rich Man's Daughter". — BAP/KG, GMA News
