Robert Downey Jr. honored as ‘Disney Legend’

Robert Downey Jr. is no longer just the face of the well-loved superhero Iron Man who we've cried over, laughed with, and loved for 11 years, but he is also officially a Disney legend.

The actor received the Disney Legends Award on Friday during the D23 Expo 2019, according to the expo's site.

Accepting the award, Downey said, "Playing Tony over these many years and the thematic idea that technology can guide our species toward enlightenment or destruction has been really worthwhile, and it’s an ongoing meditation. It’s been a great gift."

Thanking his fans, he added, "I get to remain a fan of the first inclusive and evolving cinematic universe ever, so far, and here’s to the future.”

Among other recipients of the award were Christina Aguilera, Diane Saywer, Jon Favreau, Hans Zimmer, Robin Roberts, Barnette Ricci, Ming-Na Wen, James Earl Jones, Wing T. Chao, Kenny Ortega, and Bette Midler.

The Disney Legends award is given to visionaries and artists who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy.
