Zayn Malik breathes new life into ‘A Whole New World’ for ‘Aladdin’ live-action film

Let former One Direction member Zayn Malik show you the world and give you a new fantastic point of view.

As if music fans don't already have enough reasons to love him, Disney just released Zayn's cover of the all-time Disney classic hit "A Whole New World" for the upcoming live-action film "Aladdin."

For this new rendition, the 26-year-old British lad teamed up with American singer Zhavia Ward to serve up a more modern take — with a bit of middle eastern sound — on the hugely popular song.

The song's accompanying music video has already racked up 11 million views just two days after being released, and is the No. 1 trending video on Youtube as of Saturday.

The song, "A Whole New World", was composed by legendary songwriter Alan Menken — often regarded as responsible for ushering Disney's musical renaissance in the 90s — and was used in the original Disney animated film, "Aladdin" back in 1992.

Menken is also the genius behind other Disney classic songs from the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, Hercules, and Tangled.

In Aladdin's original animated version, "A Whole New World" was sung by Pinoy pride Lea Salonga and American singer Brad Kane in the film, with Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle recording a pop version that played in the end credits.

The song went on to top the charts and win Academy and Grammy awards.

Zayn's cover of the song offers a peek into Disney upcoming film "Aladdin" set to hit the cinemas on May 22 and which stars Will Smith, playing the role of the Genie of the Lamp, famously originated by the late Robin Williams.

This is not the first time a Disney classic song has been given a modern update. In 2017, pop stars Ariana Grande and John Legend were tapped to record a version of Celine Dion and Bryson's 1992 hit, Beauty and the Beast, from the Disney animated film of the same name. — MDM, GMA News
