Dolph Lundgren cast as villain in ‘Aquaman’ movie

Looks like another heavy-hitting Hollywood actor and legend is joining the superhero film scene!

"Aquaman" director James Wan announced on Twitter that "Rocky IV" and "Universal Soldier" star Dolph Lundgren has been cast as the evil Xebel king Nereus in the Warner Bros. film, which is slated to hit theaters at the end of next year.

Lundgren will be joining lead star Jason Momoa, who plays the titular role of the King of the Seven Seas in the first time that the DC Comics superhero will be starring in his own movie.

Also joining the cast are Amber Heard as Aquaman’s love interest Mera and Patrick Wilson as Orm the Ocean Master, making the film quite the ensemble gathering for DC Films.

This won’t be the first time Lundgren has joined a comic book property, as he played He-Man in “Masters of the Universe,” the title role in "The Punisher," and the recurring role of Konstantin Kovar in the current season of The CW's “Arrow.”

“Aquaman” will mark Momoa’s third appearance as the character following his cameo in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and his larger role in this year’s upcoming “Justice League” film, where he will star alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller’s Flash, and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg.

"Aquaman" will be released in theaters in December 2018. — BM, GMA News
