‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ posters highlight Jack Sparrow

Dead men don’t only tell no tales, they won’t stay dead either—which seems to be the entire premise of the newest “Pirates of the Caribbean” flick.

It seems some film franchises don’t stay dead, as well, because “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is the fifth entry in the Disney series. We recently got a good look at the new film thanks to the February 5 Super Bowl trailer:

But it seems the well-oiled Disney marketing machine is gearing up to shove more swashbuckling mayhem down our collective throats, because the studio just released three posters that look like they’re the product of an all-nighter for a college Photoshop class. Holy cow!

The movie’s official synopsis reads:

“Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.’ The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazer (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack.

“Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Benton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifull small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has never faced.”

The film’s other characters include Joshamee Gibbs (Kevin R. McNally), Shansa the sea witch (Golshifteh Farahani), Scarfield (David Wenham), Scrum (Stephen Graham), and of course Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), who, as usual, looks like his sunburn is suffering from sunburn.

Noticeably missing from the posters is Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner. He’s in the Super Bowl trailer though, where he seems to be wearing seafood on his pretty mug.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. Jerry Bruckheimer is its producer.

The movie will this sail into theaters on May 26, 2017. — BM, GMA News
