Pinoy rocker tries luck to be the next Stone Temple Pilots vocalist

After Arnel Pineda who ended up fronting American rock band Journey, another Filipino rock vocalist is hoping to become the singer of an internationally acclaimed rock group.

John Borja of local band Chasing Days has submitted his entry to the singer search launched by Stone Temple Pilots, the seminal grunge group behind 90s hits like "Plush," "Vasoline," and "Interstate Love Song," among others.

Borja's YouTube video posted on Sunday showing him doing a 12-song medley of STP hits has been viewed over 10,000 times as of Wednesday night.

"Namamangha po ako sa response dahil wala naman po akong ganoon kalaking subscriber base at fanbase," Borja said on Facebook when the post reached over 7,000 views. "Kaya nakakataba ng puso ang lahat ng mga pangyayari."

He is enjoining his fellow Filipinos to support his audition.

"Humihingi po ako ng tuloy-tuloy na suporta ninyo para sa audition ko for The Stone Temple Pilots Singer Search," Borja said, adding that support from his kababayans is keeping him optimistic.

"To be honest, halos imposibleng mapili ang entry ko sa libu-libong sumali, pero dahil sa tiwala ninyo, nabubuhayan ako ng loob," he said.

STP's original singer, Scott Weiland, was found dead on his tour bus on December 3, 2015. His death was said to be drug-related.

Prior to Weiland's death, STP had been working with Linkin Park's Chester Bennington. —Karl B. Kaufman/FRJ,GMA News
