Maine on composing song: 'Puro puso po at damdamin'

From being the Dubsmash Queen, Maine Mendoza has ventured into songwriting in just a span of one year.

Known back then as Yaya Dub, Maine used to communicate exclusively through Dubsmashing on Eat Bulaga. After the Tamang Panahon concert, she eventually transitioned to using her own voice in the Kalyeserye segment.

This time, Maine was tapped to compose the lyrics of the song 'Imagine You and Me,' which is also the title of her movie with Alden Richards. Imagine You and Me, directed by Mike Tuviera, will open in cinemas on July 13, 2016.

"Eat Bulaga" Dabarkads Vic Sotto composed the music while Jimmy Antiporda arranged the song.

Maine's song expresses love for someone who entered her life and whom she wants too say: 'I hope you see that I would love to love you.'

It also has lyrics that go: I waited my whole life just to meet you
Now that you're here I don't think I could lose you
This would be the best day of our lives
Imagine you and me
Together eternally

How inspired was Maine when she wrote the song 'Imagine You and Me'?

“Sinulat ko yung song after kong mabasa yung script, for the first time po yun,' recalled Maine during the press conference of the movie held last night, July 1, at Novotel.

“Pumunta po akong baranggay then after kong basahin ang script…

“Lumalabas sa amin ang thoughts and feelings kaya mas naging madali.

“Puro puso po at damdamin. Hinayaan ko lang ang aking mga daliri na i-type ng tamang salita.”

How long did it take for her to write the song?

“Fifteen minutes, mga ganun po,” she disclosed.

“Kasi fresh pa po ang feelings sa akin, fresh pa po ang emotions. Talagang damang-dama ko po.

“Kaya habang fresh pa sa akin ang feelings, ginawa ko na po. Dun ko na po sinulat ang kanta para madama rin ng mga tao.”

She later said with a smile, “Hugot na hugot po.”

How did Alden feel when he heard Maine's song?

“Nakakatuwa po. Hindi ko naman ine-expect.

“Maganda na po ang movie as is tapos nung nalagyan po siya ng kanta, hindi ko ie-expect na magiging ganun kaganda ang movie. Bagay na bagay po siya sa pelikula.

“Masaya po ako na kahit papaano, nakapagsulat si Maine ng song.”

Alden then added, “Siyempre po kinilig rin.

“Nakaka-inspire pa pong magtrabaho, kapag may mga ganyang klaseng pakonswelo.”

How did Maine feel when she performed the song on the June 16 episode of Eat Bulaga?

“Emotional ako, e. Naramdaman ko talaga ang kanta. Mas overwhelmed,' admitted the 21-year-old actress.

“Unang pelikula ko tapos binigyan pa ko ng pagkakataon na ako ang sumulat ng kanta, sobrang laking bagay po talaga sa akin yun.”

She then turned to Alden and said this was a milestone for both of them since they recorded a duet for the song.
