What Jhong Hilario thinks about Eat Bulaga ratings dominance amid AlDub fever

Jhong Hilario, one of the regular hosts of ABS-CBN's daily noontime show It's Showtime, admits the show has taken a heavy beating from Eat Bulaga's AlDub phenomenon.

AlDub is the loveteam of Kapuso heartthrob Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza.

He says, "Actually ako, nanggaling ako sa Eat Bulaga.

“Streetboys [his former dance group] pa lang, galing na ako sa Eat Bulaga.

"Iba talaga yung samahan nila kaya nga sila tumagal ng 36 years, di ba?"

Jhong is proud to have been an Eat Bulaga! back-up dancer many years ago, and is grateful for the wonderful memories and experiences that contributed to his growth as a TV host.

"Kumbaga, yung feeling na dati ako doon, tapos ngayon, yung naabot ko, nakatapat ko na ngayon ang Eat Bulaga! sa It's Showtime, at naging host na rin ako," he says.

Jhong adds that everyone aspires to be a noontime show host.

"Kahit siguro sinong artista, naging pangarap yun, e. Ngayon, nakamit ko na yun."

How does Jhong feel about the rise of AlDub and its popularity among TV viewers?

The Showtime host asserts, "Mas maganda talaga na may rivalry, actually.

"Kapag wala, pagsasawaan ka ng tao.

“Kung ikaw lagi yung number one, pagsasawaan ka ng tao.

"Ang competition, mas exciting 'yan, e."

Jhong says AlDub and Eat Bulaga's success is justified.

"Deserve nila yun, kasi ang aim naman nila ay makapagpasaya ng tao.

"So kami, ganoon din yung trabaho namin."

Jhong adds, "Masaya kami para sa kanila."

He also points out that it's normal for ratings to fluctuate.

"E, ganoon talaga. Minsan bumababa, minsan tumataas.

"Walang permanente sa buhay. Lahat tayo magtatapos.

"Magtatapos ang Eat Bulaga, magtatapos ang Showtime, at may papasok na bagong generation... which is good.

"Kasi, kahit papaano, yung iniwan ng Eat Bulaga, may mga sumusunod." —PEP
