Joel Torre wins Best Actor as OTJ (On the Job) wins Jury Prize in South Korea

The Filipino film OTJ (On the Job) won two major awards in the 17th Puchon International Fantastic Film Fest held recently in South Korea.

Joel Torre personally received his Best Actor trophy during the July 26 awards night of the 17th Pichon IFFF. In the film, Joel is cast as a veteran assassin called Tatang.

Directed by Erik Matti, OTJ also bagged the Jury's Choice Prize.

The Hollywood Reporter describes OTJ as a "dark hitman drama" while a review on Variety described the movie as "a gritty, convoluted but steadily engrossing crime thriller from Filipino genre maven Erik Matti."

Justin Chang's review on Variety also described Joel Torre as a "middle-aged assassin Tatang [who] initiates young thug Daniel (Filipino-American actor Gerald Anderson) into the ruthlessness of their particular trade."

OTJ was one of the 12 films included in the Puchon Choice or the official competition section. The category also featured The Paperboy, a crime thriller starring Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, John Cusack.

The other winners in the Puchon Choice: Feature category are Sightseers (Best of Puchon); Anurag Kashyap of Ugly (Best Director); Alice Lowe of Sightseers  (Best Actress) and Secretly Greatly (NH Nonghyup Citizen’s Choice).  

Last May, OTJ made its world premiere during the 66th Cannes Film Fest.

OTJ (On The Job) will be shown in Philippine cinemas starting August 28. — Pep.ph
