Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum, more 'Wicked' stars share about the person who changed their lives
Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, and Marissa Bode sat with "Unang Hirit" host Lyn Ching for an interview about "Wicked" in Sydney, Australia early this month.
Lyn, who posted the interview on her YouTube account on Monday, asked the "Wicked" stars about the person who changed their lives.
"Wicked shows that it just takes one person to change your life. Who is that one person for you and how has that person changed yours?" the Kapuso broadcast journalist asked.
For Ariana and Cynthia, who play the Good Witch Glinda and the Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba in the movie, that person is each other.
"We're very lucky. I feel like we know some very beautiful people, but, of course, we have each other, of course we have each other," the American pop star said, with Cynthia agreeing with her.
Meanwhile, Jeff, who plays the Wizard in "Wicked," recalled a profound story by Dr. Seuss, called "Horton Hears a Who!" in relation to Lyn's question.
In the book, the inhabitants of Whoville, a tiny planet, try to prove their existence to the animals in the jungle by making noise. The animals don't hear them, until one individual in Whoville joins in and finally gets the animals to believe they exist.
"One person can change the life of another person or change the life of a community and a culture, a political culture..." he said. "In that book, it's that person."
The Hollywood star then gestured to his co-star, Jonathan, who plays Fiyero, beside him. "You know, for me, oh my God, maybe you," he said.
Jonathan, for his part, named Jeff and his primary school teacher, Mr. Peters, as the people who changed his life.
"Well, Jeff Goldblum is my one, as of forever, really," said Jonathan.
"Mr. Peters was just very supportive, I just remember him. I remember having this sense that there was someone going, you know there's something going on here and that you should endeavor and he was a singer and he got all of us singing in school and we had this amazing choir and it was through that I think I found a joy for singing and it was through him. So, Mr. Peters, and Jeff," he added.
Ethan, who stars as Boq in "Wicked," credited his high school theater teacher, Laura Rosberg.
"She definitely inspired me by treating all of us kids, all high schoolers, like we had something to say like we could tackle hard subjects and make mistakes and be okay. That's why I'm eternally grateful to her for that," he said.
Marissa, on her end, named her co-star Ethan and the rest of the "Wicked" cast as those who've changed her life. The actress plays the role of Nessarose in the film.
"Yes, Ethan Slater did in fact change the trajectory of my entire life, for sure..." she said. "I think everybody in this film to be honest changed my life in so many ways."
She also mentioned her partner, Lauren Brooks, saying, "I'll be corny and I'll say my partner 'cause I love her dearly and she's changed my life in so many ways and I love her dearly."
In the same interview, Ariana and Cynthia shared that Filipinos are the best singers in the world.
"Wicked" is set to premiere in Philippine cinemas on November 20. The film follows the Good Witch Glinda and the Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba in their self-discovery journey in Shiz University.
