Rhian Ramos disproves cheating allegations at New York City Marathon
Rhian Ramos disproved the allegations that she and her boyfriend, Sam Verzosa, cheated their way to the finish line at the recent New York City Marathon.
On Instagram, Rhian shared an email from marathon organizer New York Road Runners (NYRR), verifying that she and Sam are listed as official finishers.
“It looks like both you and Samuel fell behind the sweep and the timing points at 30km, 20 miles and 35km were removed from the course as the streets reopened before you passed through. In Central Park, we can stay open longer, so you were picked up again at 40km. We are certainly not holding those timing against you; you are both still listed as official finishers,” NYRR Runner Services said in its email to the actress.
In the caption of her post, Rhian said that she understands that people think “chismis” is fun.
“But in 2024, it's so easy to send an email, verify facts, and get your story straight before trying to ruin someone's name for a little attention -especially when it's your job to do so,” she said.
Without naming anyone, she stressed that those working in media, publications, or law have bigger responsibilities to not spread fake news, so she finds it disappointing when people in those industries publicize lies.
Rhian acknowledged that she and Sam are not professional runners and that the marathon was her first 42-km run, but she still pushed through for charity.
“Everyone said I was crazy to do it, especially without a professional trainer.. But given my schedule, I basically just relied on mental strength and making sure that I kept a fairly active lifestyle before actually flying to the US,” she said.
According to Rhian, they didn’t participate to compete with anyone’s time, and that they just made sure to finish the marathon without getting injured.
“By completing each of our runs, Sam and I raised money for children with clefts to get proper treatment and essential operations...and even if we were pretty much limping to the finish line, it was this cause that kept us from quitting and made this experience one of the best things I've ever done!”
She added that she can't understand why anyone would try to discredit their cause.
"Crab mentality is such a common term in this country, but can we Filipinos not be known for that anymore? Can we be known for pushing one another to achieve goals and make dreams come true? Like, why is that our norm, right?"
The actress ended her post by reminding her followers that liars and fake news are everywhere.
“And even if ‘chismis is fun,’ the truth can be fun too,” she said.
Rhian and Sam confirmed their relationship at the 2022 GMA Gala when they arrived hand in hand. In August, the couple celebrated their third anniversary.
In October, Rhian welcomed her 34th birthday with Sam by her side.
Rhian is one of the stars of the upcoming drama film "Huwag Mo 'Kong Iwan," alongside JC De Vera and Tom Rodriguez.
She will play Mitena, Cassiopeia's twin and the main antagonist in the upcoming "Encantadia" spinoff series, "Sang'gre."
Rhian also has an upcoming film, "Sinagtala," with Glaiza De Castro, Arci Muñoz, Rayver Cruz, and Matt Lozano.
