Gladys Reyes recalls time she felt maltreated by fellow artist during early days in showbiz
Gladys Reyes may be known by many as the "Primera Kontrabida" in showbiz, thanks to her manifold roles that involve intense sampalan scenes in front of the camera.
However, the veteran actress shared in the latest episode of Mikee Quintos' show, "Lutong Bahay," that there was a time in her life when she felt maltreated by a fellow artist.
During the "Kitchen-terrogate" portion of the show, Gladys recalled her early days in showbiz, back when she was still in GMA's teen variety show, "That's Entertainment."
At the time, she would go on shows out of town with her mom as her companion. In one instance, she and her mom had to hitch a ride in a taxi service so she could guest in one show.
"Nung uwian na, 'yung sinakyan naming taxi papunta dun, pagtingin ko may nakasakay. Artista rin siya tsaka kasama niya 'yung mother niya, tapos sabi nung mother niya, 'Ano bang ginagawa natin dito, ba't di pa tayo umalis?' So, akala ko they were waiting for us para kasabay na kaming uwi," she said.
Per Gladys, it turned out that the artist and their mother did not want to share the service with Gladys and her own mom, leaving them without a ride home. She did not name the artist.
"Umalis sila so naiwan kami ng mother ko dun sa out of town show na 'yun," she said. "Feeling ko lang naawa din ako syempre sa mother ko."
The actress added that the experience made her be considerate to the people she works with, especially to those who may not have their own transportation whenever they do taping.
"Siguro isa 'yun kahit na, halimbawa, may makakasama ako sa taping tapos alam kong wala pa siyang sasakyan, talagang I would offer."
This year, Gladys starred in GMA Afternoon Prime series "Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap," which aired its finale in October. She also starred in GMA Prime's "Black Rider," which ended in July.
Gladys is married to Christopher Roxas. The two began dating as teenagers in 1993 on set of TV drama series "Mara Clara."
The couple has four children: Christophe, Aquisha, Grant, and Gavin.
