Julie Anne San Jose, Rayver Cruz, Gabby Eigenmann, more Kapuso stars volunteer for Operation Bayanihan: Bagyong Kristine Telethon
Several Kapuso and Sparkle stars volunteered for GMA Network's Operation Bayanihan: Bagyong Kristine Telethon to help take calls from those who need to be rescued or want to pledge donations for communities affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
Those who need to be rescued or want to make donations may dial the hotline number (02) 8462-8111.
Early Friday, Sparkle stars Julie Anne San Jose, Rayver Cruz, and Betong Sumaya joined the telethon during "Unang Hirit," along with Sean Lucas, Shuvee Etrata and Jenzel Angeles.
Among the callers Julie received was one who asked about which roads were passable at that time, and another who wished to donate clothes and food.
For in-kind donations, the actress said the public may donate hygiene kits, sleeping mats, slippers, towels, and blankets, as well as relief goods like rice, noodles, canned goods, sugar, and coffee, among others.
Meanwhile, other stars like Gabby Eigenmann, Glaiza De Castro, Michelle Dee, Yasser Marta, Sofia Pablo, and John Vic De Guzman volunteered for this afternoon's telethon.
Glaiza reminded viewers and listeners that the telethon is not just for donations, but also for those who need to be rescued or report those who do.
"I know 'yung mga ibang Kapuso natin at kababayan natin ay stuck at hindi makaalis. Pwede niyo rin po kami tawagan kung kailangan niyo po ng tulong," she said.
John Vic went straight to the telethon after volunteering to repack relief goods at the GMA Kapuso Foundation this morning.
"It's time to give back para sa mga Kapuso natin, especially 'yung mga sumusuporta sa'tin. I'm very happy na naging part ako nito, kasi sa totoo lang, as a reservist, layunin natin na talagang tumulong sa mamamayan at sa ating mga kababayan sa Pilipinas," he said.
According to Aubrey Carampel's report on "24 Oras" Friday, other stars who also volunteered for the telethon included Ruru Madrid, Kyline Alcantara, Tom Rodriguez, and Aiai Delas Alas.
Ruru went straight to the telethon after the story conference of "Lolong" Season 2 with other cast members.
:Kami po ay nananwagn sa inyong lahat at kumakatok sa inyong mga puso na inyo po sanang tulungan ang atin pong mga kababayan na nasalanta ng bagyo," said Ruru.
The donations will be distributed to different areas in the country that have been affected by Kristine.
"Hindi tayo titigil uubusin natin 'yung mga relief goods na dala natin until this weekend. Nag-load na ang GMA Kapuso Foundation sa commercial aircraft, paalis na ho niyan bukas ng umaga. Good for 1,000 families. I-di-distribute sa Albay, itong Polangui, Oas, at Libon," said Rikki Escudero-Catibog, Executive Vice President and Chief Operationg Officer of GMA Kapuso Foundation.
Another team of the foundation is also on the way to Isabela and Cagayan.
Other stars like Heart Evangelista, Chelsea Manalo, SB19, Catriona Gray, Carla Abellana, and more have also joined the call for donations for victims of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
Aside from the hotline number, those who wish to lend a helping to GMA Kapuso Foundation may donate via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit GMA Kapuso Foundation's website for more information.
Several malls and establishments have offered free overnight parking, Wi-Fi, restroom use, and phone charging stations to those who may need assistance due to Kristine.
