David Licauco hopes Boy Scouts learn love of country, family from Hiroshi in ‘Pulang Araw’

David Licauco is now the first-ever Scout Ambassador of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP).

This was made official in an event at the SM Manila Activity Center on Tuesday, which was also the first day of Scouting Month and the 88th Charter Anniversary of the BSP. The event was attended by hundreds of Boy Scouts, BSP executives, and David’s fan clubs.

In an interview with GMA News Online after the launching event, David shared that he hopes Boy Scouts would learn to have love of country and love for family whenever they watch him portray Hiroshi in “Pulang Araw.”

“Hiroshi kasi always does his best, as he is living his principles and beliefs. And sana ma-impart ko ‘yun, ‘yung character ko sa mga bata, specifically dito sa Boys Scouts of the Philippines,” said the Pambansang Ginoo.

“If they want something, as long as they think it’s right, they think na wala silang tatapakang tao, they have to do their best at all times," he added.

David emphasized BSP’s values of leadership, passion, integrity, and hard work — all of which resonate with him.

The actor shared he applies these values in his personal life when it comes to his friends and family, and not just in business and his acting career.

Having empathy and being a leader are also important to David. Now that he's a Scout Ambassador for BSP, he believes the role would train him more to be a good leader.

"All these kids, probably they’re better than me when I was younger. But now, I don’t know, hopefully they look up to me, so I have to live up to those expectations.”

David is also committed to using his platform for good.

“There is a bigger meaning in being a celebrity that, you know, you can actually inspire people and be a game-changer for their lives," he said. "So, I won’t take it for granted and I’m gonna do my best for them, for me to influence [them], hopefully, to be good."
