Angeli Khang shares reason for warrant of arrest vs. her Korean father

Trigger warning: This article mentions violence against women and physical abuse.

Angeli Khang’s mom immediately filed a case against the actress’s father after the latter found out what he did to Angeli when she was younger.

On Friday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Angeli said that her South Korean father is a military officer in the United States.

At seven years old, Angeli flew from the Philippines to Saipan, where she stayed with him and her older brother.

Angeli narrated to Tito Boy some of the things she and her brother experienced at the hands of their dad.

“One time, merong dos por dos, ‘cause he owns a construction company there. May nakita siyang dos por dos, nung nakita niya ‘yon, sinaktan niya agad ‘yung kuya ko. Pinalo sa likod. And hindi pula ang lumabas sa likod ng kuya ko, color purple na,” she said, adding that their dad did it after her brother wasn’t able to solve a mathematical equation.

Soon after, her brother escaped and flew back to the Philippines.

“Hindi ko inaamin sa dad ko na alam ko na umuwi si kuya,” she said. “Gusto akong paaminin ni daddy. Ang way niya sa ‘kin, bigla niya akong nginudngod sa hugasan ng mga plato. Nginudngod niya ako doon at one week niya akong hindi pinakain.”

For an entire week, Angeli was only picking fruits from their garden so she could eat.

She recalled that she would attend school bruised and bleeding.

“I actually thought that was normal [parenting], na kapag nagkamali ka, normal lang na saktan ka ng tatay mo, ng parents mo. But hindi ko na-realize na sobra-sobra na pala,” she said. “Ang lagi lang sa ‘kin sinasabi ni daddy to comfort me, ‘I want the best of you.’”

According to Angeli, it went on for three to five years until it was reported by her classmate to their teacher.

“When my dad knew about that, the day after, umuwi na ako ng Pilipinas. At dun na nalaman ni mama lahat ng ginagawa sa ‘kin ni dad,” she said.

Angeli said that her dad even went back with her to the Philippines and offered to support her studies and provide allowances.

“Pero nung ‘pag pasok ng mom ko, nakita niya kung gaano ako kalantay, walang buhay. And nung nalaman ng mom ko, finile-an niya agad ng case ‘yung dad ko,” she said.

“Alam ng mom ko kung gaano ka-strict, ka-military disciplined si daddy, but she never knew na gaganunin din ako ni daddy kasi baby pa lang ako, ako ‘yung pinaka-favorite ni daddy. Na ako ‘yung spoiled than my brother. Kaya akala ng mom ko, ‘pag nagpunta ako ng US, OK ang future ko.”

But Angeli’s dad already flew out of the country when the case was officially filed, so until now, there is a warrant of arrest waiting for him should he return. His last visit was in 2019.

“‘Yung case na finile namin, it took a lot of years. Ang daming dilemma na nangyari. But good thing, nag-push through siya and 2020 ata or 21 ‘yun natapos nung na-filean na ng warrant of arrest ‘yung dad ko,” she said.

Despite this, Angeli is still willing to forgive her dad.

“There will be judgment. Kung hindi man siya ma-judge dito sa mundo. And I believe in God. There will always be judgment,” she said.

Angeli previously starred in “Black Rider.”

The Kapuso series started airing on Nov. 6 last year and aired its final episode last month.
