Donita Rose credits late Mother Lily Monteverde for screen name, big break in showbiz
The late Mother Lily Monteverde was indeed a force to be reckoned with in the show business industry, and Donita Rose was among those who she helped find footing in the limelight.
On Instagram, Donita said it was Mother Lily who helped her find her perfect screen name in showbiz.
"Mother Lily asked me what screen name I wanted to use, and I was taken aback a little as I was only 16 and didn't think I'd have to come up with something," she said.
"My last name was Cavett, which sounded like 'Kabit' (mistress in English), so she suggested my mom's maiden name, which is Ramos," she added.
Given that it was during the presidency of Fidel Ramos, she refused to use her last name on TV as it "sounded too political."
"Mother Lily brought up my middle name, Rose, but I wasn't a very feminine teenager at the time, so I thought it sounded a bit cringy," she said.
"In the end, I agreed to the screen name Donita Rose and have her to thank for that and my first big break in showbiz," she added.
Donita ended her post by expressing her gratitude to Mother Lily for making her "a part of the Philippine showbiz industry," even when she admitted she couldn't speak a single Tagalog word nor shed a tear in command when she was just starting.
"You will be missed. Paalam Mother Lily," she ended.
Mother Lily passed away on Sunday, just a few days after the death of her husband, Remy. She was 84.
Following Mother Lily's death, tributes from celebrities such as Judy Ann Santos, Iza Calzado, Rufa Mae Quinto, and Maricel Soriano, among others, poured on social media.
