Eraserheads bring out Perf de Castro and Medwin Marfil in back-to-back California concerts
Eraserheads are bringing out quite the guests in their current North American tour!
At what turned out to be the band's first stop in San Francisco, California on July 12, the recently married Medwin Marfil, previously of True Faith, went on stage at the Warfield Theater and sang "Perfect."
"The party has really started!" Ely Buendia exclaimed after Marfil greeted the band and the audience members with a joyful, "Hey Eraserheads! Hey San Francisco!"
On July 13 at Los Angeles' Peacock Theater meanwhile, Perfecto de Castro, former lead guitarist of Rivermaya and the short-lived TriAxis, did a surprise performance, jamming with the band for about a minute and a half during what looked like a planned break for Buendia.
In the middle of performing “Shirley,” the band stopped right after Buendia sang the line: “Hiwalay silang umuwi at sila’y nag-break" because his guitar apparently broke.
"Nasira gitara ko!” Buendia told the audience and asked permission to take a break.
This was De Castro’s cue and off he went rushing to the centerstage. A roadie was seen bringing an electric guitar that Buendia handed to De Castro while another roadie carried the “broken” guitar from Buendia, who also went back stage.
De Castro worked the crowd with the rest of three ‘Heads; fellow lead guitarist Marcus Adoro, bassist Buddy Zabala and drummer Raimund Marasigan. It was pure instrumental guitar jamming with De Castro’s riffs and hooks taking the lead.
After about a minute-and-a-half, Buendia walked back to the stage, and was seen taking a video from his mobile.
Buendia then asked the audience to give De Castro an astounding applause as De Castro handed Buendia his guitar. They gave each other a brotherly hug before De Castro went back stage and the band continued to finish “Shirley.”
Glenn Jacinto of Teeth, who was present at the Los Angeles show, posted a photo of the Eheads' setlist on social media which showed "Shirley" was the 6th of a planned 27 song-show. It started with “Alapaap” and ended with “Huling El Bimbo.”
De Castro posted on his social media accounts some photos and videos with the teaser title: “Andito ako sa US tour….ng Eraserheads!"
Eraserheads was supposed to open the North American tour on July 6 at the Hawaii Convention Center, but had to postpone the show due to "unforeseen circumstances." The Honolulu producers assured fans the concert "will push through within 60 days."
At the Warlfied Theater concert, Buendia told the audience: “We’ve had a little bit of a snag on our first trip. If you have friends and family in Hawaii, please tell them we’ll be coming over there, by hook or by crook.”
Meanwhile, fans are excited on who will be the surprise guests as the Huling El Bimbo Concert tour continues at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula City also in California on July 19 and at Great Canadian Casino Resort in Toronto City, Canada on July 21.
This is the second time the Eraserheads are bringing the "Ang Huling El Bimbo" reunion show to North America, following the highly successful concert in Manila back in December 2022.
