After taking a sabbatical from show business to concentrate on her marital duties, Geneva Cruz is back from the States and aching to resume her singing career. As expected, some insiders met Geneva's return with cynicism. Some suspect that perhaps, her marriage with former MTV VJ and host KC Montero was on the rocks, prompting her to fly back to the country to escape further heartache. Sitting in as a studio guest, Geneva explained first to
Showbiz Central host Pia Guanio the real reason why she left Manila in favor of the US. "Nawala ako because inaayos ‘yong green card ko. Alam naman ng mga tao na ‘pag inaayos 'yong green card, hindi ka naman puwedeng bumalik o lumabas ng bansa ng ganun-ganun lang hangga't hindi naaayos. So ‘yon yung major reason," she said. As for her return, Geneva—who became famous when she was still very young as part of the musical group Smokey Mountain—confided that a pending project triggered her to temporarily leave the side of KC and son Heaven. Heaven is Geneva's son with former Introvoyz drummer Paco Arespacochaga. "Because pinauwi na ako ng manager ko, magtrabaho na daw ako," she said half-teasingly on the reason why she came back. "And also, before I left, meron akong album na tribute sa great grandfather ko, who started the swing era back in the ‘40s. So, naumpisan na ‘yon and di ko pa natatapos, so kailangang tapusin ko na."
NO ISSUES WITH IN-LAWS. Geneva also laughed at rumors that she's having some major problems dealing with KC's parents. Endearingly, she said about her in-laws: "Actually, you know what, isa siguroa ko sa mga pinaka-masuwerte na manugang sa mundo kasi yong aking mga in-laws are very, very nice. Very supportive." Just like any Filipino who suddenly found him or herself living in the US, Geneva learned to do things the DIY (do-it-yourself) way. "Medyo ano pa din ako, kumbaga... Yes, nagta-try ako siyempre, naglalaba ako, natuto ako gumamit ng washing machine and dryer. Nag-wash ako ng clothes ganyan, then pasok na lang lahat diyan," she laughed. Geneva even recounted one hilarious incident that perfectly showed her inexperience in doing laundry chores. "Naiwan 'yong cell phone ni KC at 'tsaka ‘yong kanyang wallet. So sabi ko, 'Ano'ng gagawin ko, ida-dryer ko ba?' Sabi niya, ‘Yes, just put the wallet inside the dryer but the cell phone, never mind it's gone.'" Yet and despite the struggle, Geneva shared that she's innately a domesticated person and loves nothing more than fulfilling her duties as a wife and mother without losing the fun. "I love being domesticated!" beamed Geneva. "I love making sweet meals for my boys. You know in Washington, I get to ride a horse. Kasi 'yong parents ni KC, may vineyard sila, so tina-try kong i-pull 'yong mga weeds ganyan, pero... Si Heaven naman, ginagawa niya, tinutulungan niya kami." Just to set the record straight, Geneva is not making a full showbiz comeback, in the sense that she's not entertaining the thought of shuffling her priorities. "You know what, let us just say that I love my family very much and sila talaga 'yong first priority ko and kakaalis ko pa lang dun sa Seattle, pero parang gusto ko na agad bumalik. Just to tell you the truth, ganoon talaga," she paused before adding, "pero gusto ko pa din kumanta." -
