Gil Cuerva regrets straining relationship with parents during rebellious phase

Kapuso actor Gil Cuerva acknowledges his luck and privilege for never having to worry about stability, family, and finances throughout his life.

However, like any teenager, there was once a time he took that for granted.

In an interview on Tuesday, Gil shared with GMA News Online that his teenage rebellious phase caused a strain in his relationship with his parents.

"Everybody has a different background, but for me, I'm very much thankful for it, but I've been pretty fortunate throughout my life. Wala akong ganoon kalalim na hugot when it comes to stability, family, finances, and stuff," he said.

"[The worst thing that happened to me], it was the moment in my life that I wasn't really mature and disciplined and I was a bit rebellious, and you know it kind of strained my relationship with my parents, at least for that moment of time. For me that's the worst thing that could happen because your family is supposed to be there," he continued.

The "My Guitar Princess" star said that as he gets older, the more he appreciates his parents, and the more he realizes that he wouldn't want to lose his connection with them.

"I know it was my fault, I was just really being stubborn, I guess it goes with age, I was much younger back then. I say it's the worst because now that I'm older, I appreciate my parents more, their presence, and how they really stuck through me in spite of all these things," he said.

"The last thing I'd want to happen to me is to lose my parents, not necessarily physically. To lose that connection, to be disconnected from them especially when they're out there trying to reach out to me," he added.

He said that his relationship with his parents has been mended, and that everyone goes through a similar period in their lives.

The important thing, he said, is that you grow up and learn from it.

"I'm just happy that I got over it, and I was very much able to fix my relationship with my parents, and grow up, I guess. I'd like to think I grew up and matured and acknowledged that a lot of those things are my own doing," he said. — BM, GMA News
