Acclaimed film, TV director Maryo delos Reyes passes away
Veteran film and television director Maryo delos Reyes has passed away on Saturday night due to a heart attack. He was 65.
Delos Reyes suffered from a heart attack around 10 p.m. while attending a birthday party.
GMA News reported that Delos Reyes was at Yugo Restaurant in Dakak Park and Beach Resourt in Dapitan City.
He was rushed to Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician Doctor Maricel A. Quintano.
An initial investigation by the Dapitan police showed that the director was dancing when he suddenly collapsed.
Meanwhile, his brother, Manny delos Reyes confirmed the sudden demise of the veteran director.
"To all our relatives and friends it is with great shock, disbelief, pain and extreme sadness to inform you that my brother Direk Maryo J. Delos Reyes has recently passed away. The entire Delos Reyes and Jorolan families are mourning his loss and request all to say a prayer and especially the media to be respectful of our current grief and sorrow at this time," Manny said in a Facebook post.

Delos Reyes was known for the critically acclaimed drama film "Magnifico" (2003) which received the Crystal Bear for the 2004 Berlin International Film Festival, "Naglalayag" (2004) which garnered major awards in the 2004 Manila Film Festival and the box-office hit "A Love Story" (2007).
His last film was "The Unmarried Wife" (2016), starring Dingdong Dantes who won Best Actor of the Year from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box Office Entertainment Awards.
Delos Reyes was supposed to direct GMA Network's upcoming television drama series "Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka," starring Yasmien Kurdi and Mike Tan. He had directed numerous drama series for GMA Network including "Someone to Watch Over Me," "Pari 'Koy," "Niño," "Magkano ba ang Pag-ibig," among others.
Celebrities including Ruru Madid, singer and theatre actress Lea Salonga, Ruffa Gutierrez and Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Teresita Marquez have all shared their sympathies on social media.
