Lea Salonga confirms performance at Miss Saigon gala with original cast

Lea Salonga will reprise her career-making role as Kim in "Miss Saigon" in a special gala event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the musical on London's West End.

The Filipino stage star took to Twitter to make the announcement.

Members of the original 1989 company of Miss Saigon will be joining the current and alumni cast members at the special gala on Monday...

Lea is currently in London, where she appeared on a morning show on the BBC alongside Eva Noblezada, who plays Kim in the current West End revival of the musical.

The gala is set at the Prince Edward Theatre on September 22, with the performance to be recorded live for broadcast on BBC Radio on September 28.

Just 17 years old in 1989, Lea's casting as Kim paved the way for her superstardom on stage. She won an Laurence Olivier trophy for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical in 1990.

She reprised the role in the 1991 Broadway production of the musical, winning a Tony Award for her performance. — JST, GMA News
