Actor Mark Gil passes away at 52


(Updated 8:04 p.m.) Actor Mark Gil has died at age 52, after a two-year battle with liver cancer.
 
Gil's passing was reported on dzBB radio before noon Monday.
 
 

Pep.ph cited a statement from Gil's camp confirming his death at 8 a.m.

"As of now, the family is in deep grieving and they want private time with him. They will issue an official statement within the day," it quoted the statement as saying.
 
As of Monday noon, Gil's family has yet to issue an official statement.

Most of his children are in the showbiz industry, including:
 
  • Gabby and Ira Eigenmann with actress-commercial model Irene Celebre;
  • Sid Lucero and Max Eigenmann with actress Bing Pimentel;
  • Andi Eigenmann with actress Jaclyn Jose.
 
He was last married to Maricar Jacinto in 2006.
 
He was one of the three children of Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil. His siblings Michael de Mesa and Cherie Gil are well-respected actors.

Gil, born as Raphael Joseph De Mesa Eigenmann, would have turned 53 on Sept. 25.
 
Condolences start to pour in

Fans and fellow actors took to Twitter to express their sorrow over his passing.

They also reached out to the family of Gil with an outpouring of love and support.
 
 
 




As of 12:10 p.m., the topic "Mark Gil" ranked sixth among the worldwide trending topics.
 
While Gil was known for his film "Batch '81," which tells the story of the abuse and torture of college students joining a fraternity, he is also known for his work in films and TV shows.
 
In 2013, he appeared in GMA Network's teleseryes Indio and My Husband's Lover. In 2014, he appeared on ABS-CBN's The Legal Wife, according to PEP.ph.
