John Nite: 'Talagang ang peg ko sa showbiz is 'Walang Tulugan''

Famed TV host John Nite has been keeping the ball rolling in Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman for eighteen years now. What are the highlights of his eighteen-year hosting stint and what piece of advice could he give to young and aspiring hosts?

We caught up with the seasoned host after the photo shoot for the 18th anniversary of Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman.

John looked back at his experiences in the show and relished his best moments with Kuya Germs and the rest of his co-stars. As it is, he shared that he hast vast archives of memories with Walang Tulugan, but there are a few that stand out.

He said, “The most memorable ones are the shows we had abroad kasi doon namin nage-gauge how wide and fast our viewership is, especially noong nag-launch kami noong 2006 ng GMA Pinoy TV sa San Francisco.”

John appericates the recognition they get from Pinoy fans abroad and is grateful for the fact that he gets to travel to places like Europe, Japan and Papua New Guinea to entertain Walang Tulugan fans there.

He stated, “I’m very thankful and I’m very happy because I’ve never traveled that much in my entire life than when I joined GMA Supershow and Walang Tulugan. That broadens your horizon. It opens a lot of channels for you.”

Since he has found his niche in hosting, what tips could he give to those who aspire to follow his footsteps?

The veteran host shared that he always reminds the younger hosts of Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman to be thankful that they have a venue to showcase their talents, so they should love their job, be professional and always assess themselves to give room for career growth.

He added, “Not anyone can host. Dapat mayroon ka ring general knowledge. Spontaneity is the most important. Dapat conversant ka rin and learn your craft. Kailangan din marunong kang makiramdam sa feelings of the person you’re interviewing para maging comfortable siya. It should just feel like a casual conversation.”

John Nite has no regrets in taking the path to hosting. For him, it is not just a job. It is who he is.

“Ako, kampante na ako eh. I only appear in a few shows. Talagang peg ko sa showbiz is Walang Tulugan. I can do guestings, but this really is my main show. It’s my priority,” he said.

He continued, “We just keep on continuing as long as we’re making a difference with the viewing public at hangga’t ‘yung legendary style ni Kuya Germs na very colorful and puro glitters ay minamahal ng tao, we are here to stay.”
