PhlPost issues Dolphy commemorative stamps

Comedy king and National Artist Rodolfo Quizon Sr. a.k.a. Dolphy will now be immortalized among stamp collectors after the Philippine Postal Corp. issued commemorative stamps in his honor.

PhlPost said that starting Nov. 23 it issued the stamps featuring Dolphy raising his hands with posters of his movies in the background.

The souvenir sheets and official first day covers are available at the Post Shop, Philately and Museum Division of the Manila Central Post Office at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila and at PhlPost regional offices.

Dolphy was born July 25, 1928 in Tondo, Manila. He started selling peanuts and watermelon seeds at movie theaters, and worked as a stevedore.

But he started performing during the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines during World War II.

He was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in 2009, and died on July 10, 2012, weeks short of what would have been his 84th birthday. — LBG, GMA News
