Kuh Ledesma on My Husband's Lover: 'It's teaching naive women about marriage'

Pop Diva Kuh Ledesma is one of the most respected icons in the music industry. She has starred in several films and teleseryes, but her portrayal as Elaine in My Husband’s Lover has truly made her stand out.   GMANetwork.com dropped by the set of My Husband’s Lover last August 14 and caught up with the legendary singer-actress, who shared her insights on the much talked about show.   Among the many things that have drawn viewers to My Husband’s Lover is its beautifully poignant theme song, "One More Try," sung by Ms. Kuh herself. What did the talented songstress have to say about the song’s current popularity?   “The first time I recorded that was about 30 years ago. It was part of my I Think I’m In Love album. It’s one of my favorites in that album, pero hindi siya naging ganoong kasikat. I Think I’m In Love became the bigger hit, pero tignan mo, a good song will really make it no matter what,” stated the multi-awarded recording artist.   The Pop and Jazz icon’s has received rave reviews in her acting. A lot of viewers have also noticed her chemistry with onscreen husband, Roi Vinzon. Flattered by all the positive comments, Ms. Kuh reacted, “I’m glad because this is really my first full-length teleserye. Hindi pa ako beterana sa acting, pero may konting natutunan sa buhay at konting natutunan sa isang teacher, so I applied it.”   Being a Born Again Christian, does the controversial and sensitive theme of the series not clash with Ms. Kuh’s personal beliefs? The singer-actress replied,  “Well, I think a lot of Born Again Christians would think that there is a conflict, but more and more as the story evolves, more and more na nare-realize ko na magagamit ko ang MHL (My Husband’s Lover) story sa talks ko in Churches.”   She added that there are a lot of lessons to be learned from the series. “Ang Diyos kasi, he works in all good things, so I would think that this is a good thing because it’s teaching naïve women about marriage. It teaches na dapat hindi tayo sumapa agad sa marriage, ‘pag kakakilala lang natin, kahit buntis ka, dapat huwag magpakasal agad,” she explained. Had she been in Elaine’s shoes, how would she handle the situation? What would she do if she had a gay son who comes out to her? For Ms. Kuh, it is a very light challenge considering what she’s been through in life.   “As a Christian family, kailangan sundin natin kung ano ‘yung sabi ng Diyos, or else if I don’t follow it, and I don’t give kunwari my gay child the right guidance, alam ko kung hindi disenyo ng Diyos, hindi siya mable-bless sa buhay niya. Dapat tulungan ko siya through prayers, through guidance counsellors, but it will be his final choice,” she stated. Since Ms. Kuh always gives talks to families who seek spiritual guidance, we asked her what advice she would give to parents of gay children.   She answered, “Deeper ang talagang cause why somebody like Armando and Elaine would be given a gay child. Hindi naman lahat ng families may gay child, pero sa ibang pamilya naman, binibigyan sila ng may sakit, or Cancer or Bipolar. God is allowing all these things for our good.”   In conclusion, she stated, “It’s a matter of choice and hopefully in our seeking, we’ll go to the right people. Hindi lang ‘yung psychologist na wala namang spiritual background, or else it becomes a very superficial treatment. Until we learn how it is to fear God, hindi natin siya susundin.”   Catch more of Ms. Kuh Ledesma in My Husband’s Lover, after Mundo Mo’y Akin on GMA Telebabad.
