Model-athlete Ervic Vijandre injured in attack while campaigning in Taguig

Survivor Philippines castaway Ervic Vijandre, who is currently running as councilor in Taguig City’s First District, sustained a head injury after being mobbed while campaigning on Saturday morning.

In an interview with GMA News Online, the model-athlete detailed: “Naghahouse-to-house kami mga 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. sa Brgy. Tutukan sa likod lang ng munisipyo nung biglang may 20 to 30 katao na naka-bonnet ang sumugod sa amin.”

“Nagpaulan sila ng bato… Tinataboy nila kami… Pinalo kami na parang aso,” he noted, citing that some 15 campaign supporters have also suffered mild to major injuries.

“Sa akin nga mild lang, ‘yung sa iba may surgery pa. May pinalo sa mukha ng dos por dos,” he added. Vijandre was hit on his head, requiring four stiches at the St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City.

The aspiring councilor said his camp will file appropriate charges against the unidentified assailants.

“Ayaw kong magbigay ng conclusion [kung sino ang may pakana nito],” Vijandre said, noting that the incident will not stop him from campaigning. “Definitely, hindi ako titigil [sa pangangampanya] dahil sa mga taong nasaktan. Hindi ako magpapadala sa pananakot nila.”

The Survivor Philippines castaway is running under the local party of Taguig City mayoral candidate Rica Tinga of Kilusang Diwa ng Taguig.

The mayoralty bet was with Vijandre when the mob attacked but was not hurt as she was immediately secured in a house. - VVP, GMA News
