'Final Destination' creator Jeffrey Reddick says Filipino fans 'have been crucial' for franchise's success

Filipinos are among the best fans in the world—even "Final Destination" creator Jeffrey Reddick says so!
In an exclusive interview with GMA News Online, the American screenwriter and film director credited Filipino fans for being part of the franchise's success throughout the years.
"The Filipino fans have been wonderful and crucial to the franchise's success," Reddick said.
"Internationally, the 'Final Destination' films have been released in about 12 countries (out of 60) in the Asia-Pacific region. Since the first film, the Philippines has always been one of those countries. So the fans' constant support really means a lot to the franchise's success. And that's why the studio always releases the sequels there," he added.
"Final Destination" is a film franchise that revolves around a group of people who escape impending death after one of them gets a premonition about a tragic event. The first film was released in 2000.
According to Reddick, a visit to his hometown in Kentucky, USA inspired him to create the storyline.
"I was flying home to visit my family in Kentucky (USA), and I read an article about a woman on vacation and her mother told her not to take the flight she was scheduled to be on because she had a bad feeling about it. So the woman changed flights and found out that the plane she was supposed to be on crashed. That’s what put on the original idea in my head," he said.
Talking about the log truck scene of the second film that traumatized an entire generation of moviegoers, Reddick said he feels happy that it became an "iconic" scene among fans.
"I came up with a log truck idea, and I know that one is one of the standouts. So as a horror fan, it makes me happy that it's become iconic. And I always joke that for every person that's been traumatized, maybe we've saved a lot of lives," he said.
As the 6th installment "Final Destination: Bloodlines" premieres in cinemas this May, Roddick believes that the movie will be a successful and good one just like the first five films. He also assured fans that it won't take long until a seventh film will come out.
"I am pretty sure I can say with confidence that after this one comes out, it's just such a good movie. The people involved did such a great job that it will not be another decade before you see another 'Final Destination' after this one," he said.
