Lea Salonga to guest star as a villain in 'The Cleaning Lady' Season 4

Lea Salonga is set to play a special guest villain role in an episode of Fox's "The Cleaning Lady" Season 4.

In an exclusive interview with HuffPost, the singer and actress shared that she does not get to play the role of the villain often.

"I tend to be associated with women that have a heart of gold or women who are heroic or women who are much softer and without any sort of cruel intentions. To play somebody that is not likable is a lot of fun," she said.

Lea will play the role of Rose in the crime drama series, a woman who married into money and loves showing off her charitable acts.

According to Lea, she was not familiar at first with "The Cleaning Lady," which is led by Southeast Asian actors, adding that she found the show interesting upon doing her research.

"There's underworld elements, there's undocumented people, there's all these stories that are so human and communities that are vulnerable. There's definitely interest in these kinds of stories, which is fantastic. And I'm glad that I got asked to do an episode."

She also found it empowering to be part of a show that centers not just the experiences of Southeast Asian people but also Southeast Asian women.

"Now for me to come in as a woman from Southeast Asia, as a woman from the Philippines, and kind of getting into this mix, it's just one episode, but it's like it's nice to be able to center women's stories and the stories of women of color. And it's incredibly empowering to be a part of something like this."

"The Cleaning Lady" Season 4 premiered on March 25.

This August, Lea will also star in the Philippine staging of "Into the Woods" as The Witch. She will join her only child, Nic Chien, who will play the role of Jack in the musical.
